Amgis Toroids

Redesigning a B2B Manufacturing Website

Summary

Context

Amgis designs and manufactures custom toroidal transformers and high-frequency magnetics.

They needed a their website redesigned to better showcase their products and the industries they serve, while also making it easy for customers to submit specifications and request quotes for custom toroidal products.

I led research, strategy, and design to create a product-focused, trust-building website that simplified complex specifications and reduced friction in the quote request process.

Note: The website may have changed since my original design.

BEFORE
AFTER

My Role

Conducted business and user research to understand customer needs and the market.
Defined user personas, priorities, business and user goals, site architecture, and user flows.
Designed the website interface and page layouts, including the end-to-end quote request experience.
Collaborated closely with stakeholders to present concepts and iterate on feedback.

Discovery

Understanding the Market

I reviewed competitor websites to evaluate how similar companies structured product information, positioned credibility, and supported quote requests. This analysis revealed opportunities to improve product clarity and organization, better communicate trust and industry expertise, and reduce friction in the quote request process.

Understanding Users

Research and client collaboration revealed that customers often work in high-risk industries where component reliability is critical. Toroidal specifications are highly detailed, and users need confidence that products meet strict standards and will perform as expected. This reinforced the need for clear product information and certifications, an intuitive, error-resistant quote experience, signals of credibility and industry experience.

User Priorities

I identified key user goals and mapped them to website features and success metrics. The primary priorities were quickly finding the right product, confidently submitting accurate specifications, and trusting the manufacturer and its expertise.

Aligning Business & User Goals

By aligning user needs with business objectives, the website could increase qualified quote requests, reduce back-and-forth caused by incomplete specifications, and strengthen trust with technical buyers.

Defining

Information Architecture

I created a site map that defined the website’s content pages, hierarchy, and organization, ensuring users could easily find relevant products and information without feeling overwhelmed.

User Flow: Quote Request

I designed a user flow for requesting a specific product quote. This mapped out the different paths a user could take, helping ensure intuitive navigation and revealing any potential friction or bottlenecks in the process.

Wireframe Sketches

Low-fidelity sketches were used to quickly explore layouts, content placement, and navigation patterns. These helped validate direction before moving into higher fidelity designs.

Design

Design Directions

Two visual directions were presented: a clean and corporate approach, and a more distinctive direction using diagonal elements inspired by their logo to strengthen the brand.

Based on feedback, I combined the diagonal direction with a refined blue color approach to finalize the design system and page layouts.

Guiding Users From the Homepage

The homepage allowed users to easily explore and find what they needed, with clear paths to: product categories, company information, industries served, news, and quote request.

Helping Users Find Content Faster

The navigation system provided structured access to all product categories, individual product pages, industries, and educational pages. Search functionality supported quick access to specific products and other content based on related terms.

Organizing Product Information

Product category landing pages displayed the available products with images and short descriptions to help users quickly understand each option.

Individual product pages provided detailed information including specifications, certifications, regulations, and related solutions, along with the ability to request a quote based on specific requirements and explore related products.

Simplifying Quote Submission

Users could request either a quote for a specific product or a fully custom quote. Product-specific quotes were requested directly from product pages with a streamlined set of input fields. Fully custom quotes were available through calls to action throughout the site, allowing users to submit detailed requirements.

Outcome

Users could request quotes directly from product pages or submit fully custom requests through calls to action across the site. The experience was streamlined to collect the necessary technical details without confusing or overwhelming the user.
